Melody C. Mendoza and Julysa Sosa have begun their professional journalism careers with The San Antonio Express-News.
Mendoza has a story in the June 7 issue of the newspaper:
"Local film project helps young aspiring filmmakers." Sosa had the unenviable task of documenting the losing Game 5 effort by the Spurs at Tony's, a local watering hole. (

Mendoza is editor-in-chief of The Mesquite at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, and Sosa is a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill studying photojournalism. Both young women worked on The Ranger, and Sosa participated in the summer trip to the Gulf Coast,
"JSchool Travels," in which six members of The Ranger staff and three advisers from the journalism program traveled on the Gulf Coast from Texas to the Florida Panhandle to report on recovery efforts after Hurricane Katrina. (
